You see my dear friend, I am willing to pay for it with a tax increase. Ta-da! It's cost-neutral. Problem solved (as would raising taxes to pay for budget gaps in Medicare/Medicaid/SCHIP/VA) It's people like you who oppose tax increases for the sake of opposing tax increases even if it means that millions of people would be healthier. Where is your sense of charity? I, for one, believe that the government is of OF THE PEOPLE. And my tax dollars should fund social programs like universal health care to people who can't afford it. We pay for the elderly, children from low-income families, persons in poverty, and veterans. Why can't we provide health care for the 50 million who also can't afford it? If a man asks for your cloak, give him your tunic as well.

The problem with what you have said is not all people want a public option, not even most want it.
A Rasmussen poll posted yesterday says 68% of Americans believe Obamas healthcare plan would increase the deficit. If that happens, Obama will have broken another promise. That promise being that his plan would be cost-neutral.
If you would like to see how government run healthcare would work just look at existing programs. People in the Indian Health Service have a saying, "Don't get sick after June.", because there isn't any money. Veterans Affairs exposed 10,000 people to HIV because of unsterile equipment. Medicare will be broke in 2019. All government-run health programs.
Feel free to look-up any facts I've stated.

The BCS is ripping off Boise State because of it's "criteria" ... in other words the rules they set up work agains teams from one BCS conferences at the expense of having obvious preferences for BCS conference schools.

To me, rules aside, the issue isn't why Utah instead of Boise, but why Ohio State instead of Boise. Oh ... here's the answer ... Ohio State fans are very good at following their team to bowls.

Nice call, Richard.

The web site I was telling you about is- fivethirtyeight.com (538 is the total number of electors in the electoral college). They do a pretty good job of analyzing all of the poll data daily and ranking the validity of the various polls.

In response to the latest comment:

I did not argue that CEO pay was teh cause of the financial collapse. I simply stated that CEO pay was disproportionately high. CEOs are evil if they make money while ruining their companies.

While I agree that some of these executives make way too much money, the article's premise that these poorly structured salaries caused the current economic crisis is flawed. This type of compensation has been going on for years and it's the de-regulation of the financial industry allowing creditors to merge with lendors and not requiring transparency that put us in this mess.
